Sunshine!!!

I saw a young mother
With eyes full of laughter
And two little shadows
Came following after.
Wherever she moved,
They were always right there
Holding onto her skirts,
Hanging onto her chair.
Before her, behind her-
An adhesive pair.

"Don't you ever get weary
As, day after day,
Your two little tagalongs
Get in your way?
She smiled as she shook
Her pretty young head,
And I'll always remember
The words that she said

"It's good to have shadows
That run when you run,
That laugh when you're happy
And hum when you hum-
For you only have shadows
When your life's filled with sun."

Today was just that kind of day. The kind of day when I have all the energy in the world to play and be the "fun" mom. I have some great kids! My life is filled with sun!

Birthday

I had a birthday, shout HOORAY!!! It was a great day thanks to my kids and hubby. The kids had a part it all of it, from making cards, decorations, the cake and picking out presents. I'm a pretty lucky gal!

Huge thank you to my sneaky little beehives for leaving the most delicious cupcakes on my doorstep and decorating the grass. So fun!

I Can Do Hard Things

Lilly is learing how to swim. Last summer with a baby Barrett, we slacked off on teaching Lilly to swim. This really bummed me out because the summer before Barrett was born Lilly was a little fish. Even able to swim under water for a few feet all by herself. She is now terrified to go under water. The first day of swim lessons didn't go too bad. I think the teacher took it easy on her since it was her first time in swim lessons. Swim lesson #2 was a little tougher. She new what was going to happen this time and wasn't happy about it. However despite the tears she really did do her best and did everything the teacher asked her to do. I am so proud of her. It is seriously so hard as a parent to watch your kids struggle with something. I know that she will learn more than just swimming with these lessons...I am hoping to teach her that she CAN do hard things, and that we don't quit things just because they are hard. And I am learning that this parenting thing doens't get any easier as your kids get older.

the pics a little fuzzy...but I think I caught a rare smile while swimming :)

This video is from the end of lesson 2...suprised she was able to do this while crying.

Thoughts On Being A Mother

So we might watch a lot of Disney channel at our house...maybe :) Since the beginning of the year they have been doing short little bits on poetry and reading poems. There is one that Lilly and I just love. She loves it because of all the mother and baby cartoons put to the poem (like scenes from Dumbo, Bambi and Lion King) I love it for the words:

Mother's Song
a Traditional Lullaby
My heart is like a fountain true

That flows and flows with love to you.

As chirps the lark unto the tree

...So chirps my pretty babe to me.

There's not a rose where'er I seek,

As comely as my baby's cheek.

There's not a comb of honey-bee,

So full of sweets as babe to me.

There's not a star that shines on high,

Is brighter than by baby's eye.

There's not a boat upon the sea,

Can dance as baby does to me.

No silk was ever spun so fine

As is the hair of baby mine.

My baby smells more sweet to me

Than smells in spring the elder tree.

A little fish swims in the well,

So in my heart does baby dwell.

A little flower blows on the tree,

My baby is the flower to me.

The Queen hes sceptre, crown and ball,

You are my sceptre, crown and all.

For all her robes of royal silk,

More fair your skin, as white as milk.

Ten thousand parks where deer do run,

Ten thousand roses in the sun,

Ten thousand pearls beneath the sea,

My babe more precious is to me.

I love being a mother because I get to hold...and kiss and squeeze and love on, the most precious treasures in world.
